Manitowoc has launched the Potain MDT 99e, a compact new topless tower crane designed to maximize performance on modern urban job sites.

As the first crane to feature the new CCS Evolution control system, the MDT 99e combines advanced technology, simplified operation, and efficient ownership while fully complying with the upcoming EN 14439:2025 European design standard.

The MDT 99e delivers increased productivity and profitability to owners and is equipped with the latest Potain technology. It combines lifting performance, ease of assembly and optimized operation in a crane with a maximum capacity of 5 t, up to 55 m of horizontal reach, and a jib end capacity of 1.2 t.

“Space constraints continue to challenge contractors, particularly in urban environments where every square meter matters,” said Thibaut Le Besnerais, VP marketing and product development at Potain. “The MDT 99e delivers the ideal combination of compact design, lifting performance, and ease of installation. Combined with the new CCS Evolution control system, it gives owners and operators a smarter, more productive crane for today's construction projects and tomorrow's regulatory requirements.”

Performance for Modern Jobsites

The MDT 99e is a compact crane that offers high-performance lifting with an optimized load curve to improve productivity while maintaining flexibility across urban and residential projects. Its next-generation CCS Evolution control system builds on the proven Crane Control System, delivering smoother movement, greater precision and enhanced operator control. CCS Evolution also makes life easier for technicians with a touchscreen and intuitive interface that ensures commissioning and maintenance is simplified, helping technicians commission the crane more quickly and minimize downtime throughout its service life.

Other features include Potain Plus software, optimizing the speed and capacity of lifts; the Top Site anti-collision system; and Power Control, which ensures performance continues even when power supply to the crane is variable. The Ultra View cab is also available as an option. Together, these technologies deliver dependable lifting performance, improved energy efficiency, enhanced jobsite safety and greater operator comfort.

Inside the cab, operators will feel instantly at home with Potain's ergonomic layout and controls offering reassuring familiarity. The new interface delivers more comfortable working, reduces the risk of errors, and enables faster commissioning. Operators can quickly personalize control settings to match their preferences, reducing setup time and improving productivity. These advantages make the MDT 99e particularly well-suited for rental fleets and job sites where multiple operators use the crane.

Simplified Assembly, Optimized Logistics

Designed with assembly crews in mind, the MDT 99e benefits from a simplified design, with easy access to the jib and counter-jib from the base, as well as optimized component design for transport and installation. There are also two alternative designs of the crane: one for customers who will mostly work on congested urban job sites and the other for owners requiring regular assembly via helicopter.

The crane is equipped with a 25 LVF 13 Optima variable frequency winch and is rigged in permanent fourfall reeving. It is compatible with existing 1.2 m K masts or L masts, allowing it to slot into existing tower crane fleets for optimized cost of ownership. With its simplified maintenance and high performance lifting, the crane is purpose-built to maximize return on investment for owners.

The MDT 99e demonstrates Potain's continued commitment to helping customers address evolving jobsite challenges through innovative crane technology, improved operational efficiency and simplified ownership.
