According to Allegheny Crane Rental President Kyrk Pyros, the company’s business is up 65 percent since 2009 and its fleet size has nearly tripled in the past year and a half. Ferruccio Moritsch, pioneer and innovator of the tower crane industry, passed away at the age of 76 on July 9 in Italy. After founding Comedil in 1962 and Recom in 2004, Mr. Ferruccio consistently pioneered the tower crane industry worldwide throughout his lifetime with the development of a significant number of tower crane products and innovations marked notably by the launch of the first Hammerhead tower crane in 1965, the first telescopic self-erecting tower crane in 1968, the first luffing boom tower crane in 1988, and the first extra large 44 ton (40 t) capacity flat top tower crane in 2005. Manitowoc Wind Attachment Boosts Crane Capacity →
JPW Riggers, a crane rental company based in Syracuse, N.Y., will use Manitowoc’s wind attachment for its Model 16000 to increase productivity with the 440-ton (399 t) capacity crawler crane. The company plans to use the attachments on most of its wind power work in 2011. The attachment improves crane capacity by up to 49 percent and allows the crane to place heavier components of large wind turbines, according to the manufacturer. Click for more...

Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT), an Oshkosh Corporation company introduced new telescopic cranes featuring increased reach and capacity at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2011, March 22 to 26 in Las Vegas. The new cranes — the 7500, 8600, 9500, 10000, 12000 and 14000 — have model numbers corresponding to their maximum capacity. They each offer up to 30 ft. Liebherr introduced the 81 K, a brand-new fast-erecting crane of entirely new design, to the U.S. market at ConExpo 2011. The 81 K is the first crane in its class to operate only in the two part mode — a new development called SPEED2LIFT, that defines a new performance standard in this market segment, according to the manufacturer. Manitowoc and Coast Crane Company, a subsidiary of Essex Rental Corp., recently celebrated a major order of Grove rough-terrain cranes. The order was for a variety of rough-terrain cranes for a total of 12, including two new RT9150Es, the newest RT from Grove launched last year. It is the largest rough-terrain crane currently in production globally. “Coast Crane made a major investment in its rental fleet and in its continuing relationship with Manitowoc Cranes,” said Dave Hull, senior vice president of sales of Manitowoc, North America.
