Caltrans Begins $225M Extension on SR 52 in Santee →

A 4-mi. (6.4 km), $225 million extension of existing SR 52, which includes construction of a four-lane interchange at SR 67 and 13 bridges throughout the city of Santee, Calif., is under way. Currently SR 52 runs east from Interstate 5 in La Jolla, nearly a mile from the coast, to Santee where it terminates at SR 125. There is a bridge on Route 1 in Mendocino County that travels over a wide river. It is beautiful, scenic and peaceful — but it is also dangerous, as it is susceptible to collapse during an earthquake. In fall 2010, it will be gone. Terex Cranes Finds Counterfeit Cranes in China →

Terex Cranes has identified eight lattice boom crawler cranes as counterfeits of its products in the Henan Province of China and is undertaking legal action in cooperation with Chinese government authorities. The cranes were being sold as used Terex Demag models. In recent months, at least two other crane manufacturers have reported counterfeiting of their products, according to trade publication reports. The current rehabilitation of the Garden State Parkway’s Alfred E. Driscoll Bridge across the Raritan River in New Jersey has its foundation in a cooperative operation involving the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and the Garden State Parkway (GPS). Their agreement calls for construction of a new seven-lane bridge (completed two years ago parallel to the existing span) and rehabilitation of the original Driscoll Bridge. Click for more...

Berlin, N.H., a town that for years relied on the logging and paper industries, took a huge hit in its economy with the closing of the paper mill in 2001 and other factory closings in areas nearby. United States District Court Judge Ursula Ungaro ordered a permanent injunction against Miami-Dade County, enforcing its crane ordinance enacted in March 2008. It follows Ungaro’s May 22 preliminary injunction enjoining the enforcement of significant portions of Miami-Dade County Ordinance No. 08-34, “Ordinance Relating to the Safety of Cranes and Other Hoisting Equipment; Providing Definitions; Providing Standards for Manufacture and Installation; Providing for Education and Certification of Operators; Establishing Standards for Hurricane Preparedness; Providing for Enforcement; Creating Chapter 8E of the Code; Providing Severability, Inclusion in the Code, and an Effective Date” (the “Crane Ordinance”).
