The North Carolina Department of Labor recently honored Southern Industrial Constructors and its wholly owned subsidiary, Southern Crane, for their exemplary safety records with its prestigious Gold Award for the 15th year in a row.

“This award reflects just how committed our employees are to maintaining the highest safety standards possible when they are on the job,” said Earl Johnson III, president of Southern Crane. “I’m proud of our team and appreciate the work they do.”

The Gold Award is given to companies with a DART rate that is at least 50 percent below the statewide rate for its industry. The DART rate is determined from entries within a company’s injury and illness log and includes work-related days away from work, restricted activity or job transfers. To be considered for the award, companies cannot have had fatal accidents at involved work sites.

As part of their comprehensive workplace safety programs, Southern Industrial/Southern Crane enforce strict employee and supervisor training, and conduct frequent site visits and equipment inspections. Believing accountability to be important, the companies’ managers post detailed safety records for all employees to see.
