Manitowoc Cranes Inc., Manitowoc, WI, has announced a new MAX-ER 2000 attachment that dramatically increases the lifting capability of its 300-ton (272 t) model 2250 crane and offers improved set-up time. The new MAX-ER 2000 improves on the capacity and reach offered by its predecessor, the MAX-ER 225. Other important features of the MAX-ER 2000 include increased luffing-jib capacities; improved set-up time; the ability to travel with any lifted load; modules that can be transported easily by truck; the versatility of several combinations of booms, fixed jibs, and luffing jibs with total lengths to 620 ft. (189 m); a choice of hanging or wheeled counterweight; a choice of three counterweight positions to meet space requirements; and the high utilization generated by incorporating many components from the 2250’s boom and rigging into the MAX-ER 2000 attachment and its booms. On straight boom, the MAX-ER 2000 offers a maximum capacity of 500 tons (450 t), and maximum boom length of 360 ft. (110 m) with heavy-lift boom or 400 ft. (122 m) with long-reach boom. With optional luffing jib, the MAX-ER 2000 offers maximum capacity of 250 tons (225 t) and a maximum boom-and-jib combination of 300 ft. (91.4 m) and 240 ft. (73.2 m). On that longest combination, the MAX-ER 2000 can lift a maximum of 63,600 lb. (28,848 kg) at a radius of 90 ft. (27.4 m). Adding a fixed jib to the end of the luffing jib provides a maximum combination of 300 ft. (91.4 m) of boom and 200 ft. (61 m) of luffing jib and 120 ft. (36.6 m) of fixed jib. On that 620-ft. (189 m) combination, capacities range from 15,200 lb. (6,894 kg) at a radius of 165 ft. (50.3 m) to 4,800 lb. (2,177 kg) at a radius of 340 ft. (104 m). Designed for fast assembly, the MAX-ER 2000 offers reduced set-up time over the MAX-ER 225, due to a simpler design and improved assembly features, such as quickly connected strap rigging for the mast, boom and luffing jib. Major components of the MAX-ER 2000 include a larger boom, 130-ft. (39.6 m) mast, an adapter frame, a trailing counterweight assembly (available with or without wheels), a three-position extender frame for positioning the counterweight assembly, additional counterweights and a new load-hoist drum mounted in the boom butt. For maximum component utilization, the MAX-ER 2000 also incorporates many boom sections, rigging components and counterweights from the basic 2250 crane. In addition, the basic crane’s boom forms the 250-ton (225 t) capacity luffing jib. The MAX-ER can be used with model 2250s already in the field, with some minor retrofitting.
