Tadano America Corp. President Kenichi Sawada started the company’s used crane division in January and appointed Denis Roberts as used crane manager.

A veteran of the crane industry since 1974, Roberts has worked as an operator, salesman, and in the parts and repair departments.

On occasion, Roberts, who is based in Augusta, GA, has even instructed newcomers in crane operation.

Roberts said Tadano has officially started to accept trade-ins from its customers to make their new crane buying experience easier.

“We will try to give the customer the market price for the machine,” he said.

The Used Crane Department will also go out and purchase used cranes that are unrelated to the sale of a new machine so customers in the market for a used machine have more options.

So far, the venture has been a success. The first three used cranes the company brought in were pre-sold.

As this division begins to grow, Roberts said Tadano will likely have several storage facilities throughout North America. Their exact locations will be determined at a later date based on where the cranes come from.

Optimally, “we really don’t want to have an inventory,” he said.

The used cranes will be sold nationally and worldwide. CEG Staff
