Pinnacle Cranes Expands in North Carolina →
Recognizing the importance of branching out to meet its clients needs, North Carolina’s Pinnacle Cranes has opened a new service facility in Raleigh. The expansion was made official the first of January 2013. “This will allow us to better serve our crane customers in the eastern part of the state,” said Jim Mackinson, Pinnacle Cranes vice-president and general manager. “The facility will enable us to provide local service and parts support for the Link-Belt, Shuttlelift, Elliott and Manitex cranes.”Established in 2001 as the crane division of Carolina Tractor, Pinnacle Cranes offers one of the Southeast’s largest crane inventories of new, used and rental equipment, providing vehicles for every construction crane and related industry application needed. NYC Officials Still Searching for Cause of Crane Collapse →
NEW YORK (AP) Work remained suspended Jan. 10 at the site of New York City’s latest crane collapse as engineers try to determine what caused the equipment to fall. The Department of Buildings said investigators were still at the construction site in the borough of Queens a day after the collapse injured seven construction workers. The crane’s 170-ft. (52 m) long boom fell Jan. 9 onto metal scaffolding and the wooden framework that made up the first floor of what will be a 25-story apartment building. Click for more...
Helicopter Collides Into Crane in London →
LONDON (AP) — A helicopter crashed into a crane and fell on a crowded street in central London during rush hour Wednesday, sending black plumes of smoke into the air as it smashed to the ground. The pilot and one person on the ground were killed and 13 others injured, officials said. The helicopter crashed just south of the River Thames near the Underground and mainline train station at Vauxhall, and near the British spy agency MI6. Click for more...

Link-Belt Cranes held CraneFest 2012 at its company headquarters in Lexington, Ky., during the week of Sept. 23. Nearly 1,000 crane dealers, rental houses and end users from the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, South Africa, Trinidad and the United Kingdom attended the event in groups of 200 to 250 for a series of two- day sessions that ran throughout the week. CUES Plans NCCCO Crane Training Classes in N.H. →
CUES Inc. (Consolidated Utility Equipment Service) has scheduled crane training classes at its Amherst, N.H., location. The courses, which run from Oct. 15 to 19, are being led by Associated Training Services (ATS). The training sessions will help participants learn the written material and the skills needed to pass written and practical exams on a variety of crane types. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A woolly mammoth tooth with its enamel still intact has been discovered during the excavation for a new transit center in downtown San Francisco. A crane operator came across the 10-in.-long brown, black and beige tooth on Sept. 10 while digging a 200-ft. hole for a piling at the Transbay Transit Center. Woolly mammoths, elephant-like animals, roamed the San Francisco Bay area some 10 million to 15 million years ago in the Pleistocene era. Click for more...

For Decatur, Ala.’s Solley Crane Service, hoisting a 140-ton (127 t) object previously meant mobilizing multiple cranes. “For a job that size, we would use two of our 250-ton cranes and do a tandem lift,” explained Ray Solley, president of Solley Crane Service. With its recent acquisition of the 600-ton (544 t) capacity class Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane, that same 140-ton piece can now be lifted with a single crane, with room to spare. Pinnacle Cranes, Charlotte, N.C., recently took delivery of the first Link-Belt TCC-750 75-ton (68 t) telescopic crawler crane to enter the Carolina market. In order to prepare Pinnacle’s crane technicians to handle the product, Link-Belt trainers came to Pinnacle to review all aspects of the TCC-750. Jim Mackinson, general manager, Pinnacle, explained that the Link-Belt team would be reviewing the computer, the logistics of assembly, the loading and unloading, the load charts and the local daily service of the TCC-750 with the crane technicians. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia developer says it used a decoy truck to sneak a construction crane onto property where it’s renovating a former factory into residential space. Union protesters have been blocking equipment and deliveries at the former Goldtex site in the city’s loft district over complaints the developer is using non-unionized workers. Owner Wally Jones originally started Atlantic Coast Cranes & Machinery in 1991 with his colleague of 40 years, Dennis Samuel.
