Calif. Crane Operator Unearths 10-in. Prehistoric Woolly Mammoth Tooth →

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A woolly mammoth tooth with its enamel still intact has been discovered during the excavation for a new transit center in downtown San Francisco. A crane operator came across the 10-in.-long brown, black and beige tooth on Sept. 10 while digging a 200-ft. hole for a piling at the Transbay Transit Center. Woolly mammoths, elephant-like animals, roamed the San Francisco Bay area some 10 million to 15 million years ago in the Pleistocene era.  Click for more...

For Decatur, Ala.’s Solley Crane Service, hoisting a 140-ton (127 t) object previously meant mobilizing multiple cranes. “For a job that size, we would use two of our 250-ton cranes and do a tandem lift,” explained Ray Solley, president of Solley Crane Service. With its recent acquisition of the 600-ton (544 t) capacity class Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane, that same 140-ton piece can now be lifted with a single crane, with room to spare.  Click for more...

On Aug. 23 Empire Crane hosted the Northeast Regional Qualifier Event for the 2012 Crane Operator Rodeo. Pinnacle Crane Brings Link-Belt TCC-750 Into Lineup →

Pinnacle Cranes, Charlotte, N.C., recently took delivery of the first Link-Belt TCC-750 75-ton (68 t) telescopic crawler crane to enter the Carolina market. In order to prepare Pinnacle’s crane technicians to handle the product, Link-Belt trainers came to Pinnacle to review all aspects of the TCC-750. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia developer says it used a decoy truck to sneak a construction crane onto property where it’s renovating a former factory into residential space. Union protesters have been blocking equipment and deliveries at the former Goldtex site in the city’s loft district over complaints the developer is using non-unionized workers. But Post Brothers Apartments says it employed a decoy truck and a circuitous route on Wednesday to sneak a crane on to the property accompanied by private security.  Click for more...
