General Crane Bought Out of Bankruptcy →
General Crane USA has gotten the lift it needed to pull out of the economic downturn and rise out of bankruptcy. Prophet Equity, a Southlake, Texas-based firm, and General Crane co-owner and President Jim Robertson created Allegiance Crane & Equipment, which, in turn, purchased the assets of the Pompano Beach-based company for $40 million. Ring Power Recycles Crane Building for New RUP Facility →
In the spirit of recycling, when Ring Used Parts (RUP) needed a new building at its Ocala branch it found a perfectly good used one to fit the bill. The metal building, which had previously been used by Ring Power Corp's crane division at another location, was taken down and moved to the Ocala branch. Earlier this year, Tiffin Loader Crane in Tiffin, Ohio, one of Palfinger’s largest U.S. crane dealers, hosted a National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) workshop to train examiners. This workshop served to not only certify them as operators, but also to accredit them for ABC (Articulating Boom Cranes) and ABL (Articulating Boom Loaders) class cranes so that they are able to administer the practical section of the certification as well. When the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and prime contractor Granite Construction sat down to the design phase of the Eagle Canyon Bridge project, it realized that using a standard-size crane was not an option. Because of the bridge’s age and vulnerable state, it could not withstand the weight that a regular crane would impose upon it. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced that it is issuing a new rule addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction, which will replace a decades-old standard. Approximately 267,000 construction, crane rental and crane certification establishments employing about 4.8 million workers will be affected by the rule published today. “The significant number of fatalities associated with the use of cranes in construction led the Labor Department to undertake this rulemaking,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. (AP) The Heart of the Highlands Trail, a 23-mi. loop passing through five public land agencies in and around Canaan Valley, is taking shape in Tucker County, due to a $600,000 appropriation from Congress.
