Construction Begins on North Carolina’s First Toll Road →
North Carolina’s first toll road, the Western Wake Freeway, will leave those traveling the length of the 12.5-mi. (20.1 km) roadway with an average 20 minutes more free time per trip, according to Jason R. Peterson of the North Carolina Turnpike Authority. “If progress continues on schedule, the mass of workers commuting from the Apex and Holly Springs areas to Research Triangle Park will be able to take the Western Wake Freeway as an alternative route beginning in summer 2013,” said Peterson, who also is the Triangle Expressway project manager. A new attachment for Manitowoc’s Model 16000 crawler crane boosts the crane’s capacity to place the latest generation of wind turbines. The Manitowoc 16000 wind attachment uses existing hardware in a new configuration and gives the crane enhanced lift ability when working at short radii, as is generally required in wind turbine erection. In 2001, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida cabinet approved the construction and operation of a new 633-megawatt high-efficiency power plant to serve central Florida. The new unit consisted of a combustion turbine, combustion turbine generator a heat-recovery steam generator boiler and a steam turbine generator and various transformers. Work began this fall on a project involving the largest single contract in the history of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). The department has been in operation for more than 90 years. Bids were first opened for the project, which involves the new Indian River Inlet Bridge, in February 2008. HOLT Crane & Equipment conducted its first open house at the new facility, located at 7010 North Loop East, Houston, Sept. 22. The event celebrated the partnership of the company and Link-Belt Crane.
