Cure Coming for Atlanta’s 14th Street Bridge Traffic Ills →

A congested major intersection in downtown Atlanta that has proven to be a headache for commuters and travelers throughout the area will soon be reconstructed. The reconstruction is now past its halfway point and heading toward the finish line. Known as the 14th Street Bridge Improvement Project, the $88.5 million work was designed to alleviate traffic bottlenecks in the midtown. Poindexter Excavating Inc. faced a challenge — move 8 million cu. yds. (6.1 cu m) of dirt in nine months or less. At that pace, the Indianapolis-based company would need to move enough dirt to fill nearly 1,100 Goodyear blimps, or the equivalent of about four blimp-sized loads of dirt per day. Firm Donates Crane to Raise Trusses on Habitat Homes →

Southern Crane donated its crane services to set roof trusses on six Habitat for Humanity homes under construction in nearby Cary, N.C. The homes at the intersection of Old Apex Road and Falcone Parkway are among the largest construction projects undertaken in Cary by Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. The Case of the Missing Ramps Solved in ’Burgh →

The I-79 Parkway West ramps were opened for use in December 2008 after two years of construction. The two “missing” ramps will allow motorists direct access to the existing interchange of I-79, SR 22/30 and the Parkway West of Pittsburgh. Since the 1970s, travelers have been directed onto Route 60 at the Crafton exit in order to reach the Pittsburgh International Airport.
