Primco Inc. is a family-owned contractor specializing in paving and bridgework, and although the company started out small, it is currently taking on a big project –– constructing the bridge spanning the Elkhart River in Goshen, IN. The job consists of a 1.5-mi. (2.4 km) stretch on County Road 17 that will end where it ties in to County Road 28. Key Construction Company Inc. is nearing the half-way point on its contract for improvements on U.S. 360 in Halifax County from Route 58 to just north of Route 34 at Hodges Street. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) awarded the contract worth $24.4 million to Clarksville, VA-based Key Construction in 2003. Crane Rental Corporation is doing its small part to help lift NASA’s shuttle program back into space. Under a subcontract with Ivey’s Construction of Brevard County, the Orlando-based company has rolled a Manitowoc 2250 crawler crane to launch pad 39A. The machine, which boasts a 300-ton capacity, is handling some heavy-duty parts of the launch tower. Tadano America Corp. President Kenichi Sawada started the company’s used crane division in January and appointed Denis Roberts as used crane manager. A veteran of the crane industry since 1974, Roberts has worked as an operator, salesman, and in the parts and repair departments. On occasion, Roberts, who is based in Augusta, GA, has even instructed newcomers in crane operation.
