Archer Western Contractors Ltd. is more than two-thirds finished with the reconstruction of the Interstate 77 twin bridges over the New River, the New River Trail State Park and Route 52 in Wythe County, VA. Work on the contract, awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), has been under way since April 2002. Eight cranes, manned by operators from four area suppliers, converged in December at the future location of Grand Champion, a 360-unit housing development in Daytona Beach, FL. Their task? Founded in 1967 by Joseph L. Wesley Sr., AmQuip offers crane rentals and related services in northeastern United States with cranes ranging in size from “small” machines such as 6-ton (5.4 t) industrial crane up to 550-ton (499 t) all-terrain and 600-ton (544 t) crawler cranes. After entering the tower crane market in 2002, AmQuip continued to grow that segment of the business. In May, after three and a half years of work, the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) will unveil a new work of art: a remodeled and expanded version of itself. The three major objectives under this $220 million plan include: building and strengthening the permanent art collections with an $80 million art acquisition fund; enhancing the educational and outreach programming with a $30 million new operating endowment fund; and facilities development and enhancement with a $109 million initiatives fund, out of which comes the $74 million expansion and renovation project. After a delay of more than a year, a $19-million project to upgrade the Clinton-Raymond Road/Interstate 20 interchange is under way in Clinton, MS, near Jackson. Mississippi’s financial problems forced diversion of the state’s transportation funds, according to officials. The interchange is being reconstructed to improve traffic flow through the area. $220M Maumee River Bridge Marks Largest Investment in State History →

A major bridge project in Ohio is currently about 75 percent complete, according to Joe Rutherford of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) District Two Office of Public Information. The $220 million project crosses the Maumee River in Toledo. Work began in March of 2002, and the completion date is currently set for Fall 2006. Rutherford explained that the project involves building a new precast, segmental concrete cable-stayed bridge on Interstate 280 over the Maumee River. Click for more...

The Western Gateway Project in Rochester, upstate New York, is an ambitious $85-million effort to rebuild Route I-490 from a western suburban stretch of the Erie Canal to the Genesee River in downtown Rochester. During the job, bridges over the highway will be rebuilt, noise barriers constructed, vehicle monitoring and traffic condition announcement equipment installed and landscaping improved. The project has reached the stage of replacing the approximately 50-year-old eight-span Troup-Howell Bridge, which crosses the Genesee River in the city with a three-member steel arch structure.
