’Kids of All Ages’ Get to Meet the Machines in Missouri →

Approximately 2,000 adults and 1,300 kids, ages 3 to 15, attended the first annual “Meet the Machines” event co-sponsored by The Budrovich Companies and Fabick CAT. The event was held at Budrovich’s headquarters, which is on the site of an old quarry, in south St. Louis County on April 16. Every child received a hard hat and work-order ticket upon entry to the event. The work-order ticket served as part of a scavenger hunt where the children earned stamps after visiting the different event stations.  Click for more...


Aesthetics Count During I-4 Work Through Ybor →

Ybor, “the city with a past,” is getting a new roadway. Not only is it expected to make travel easier, it should be quieter with aesthetically pleasing noise walls built to match the historic ambiance of the city. Desrochers Crane Service Presses HTC 8650-II Into Service →

Until recently, Desrochers Crane Service of Derby, VT, had a dilemma of sorts. The company, located just a few miles from the Canadian border, had a 30-ton National crane and a 90-ton Grove crane, but nothing to take care of jobs in the huge gap in between. That was when Robert Desrochers turned to Wood’s CRW, of Williston, VT. Chris Palmer, the vice president of sales and marketing at Wood’s, sold Desrochers a Link-Belt HTC 8650-II hydraulic truck crane that could handle those in-between sized jobs.  Click for more...


I-84 Reconstruction on Track for Fall Finish →

The reconstruction of a portion of Interstate 84 (I-84), which is nearing completion, required an array of heavy construction equipment to meet project challenges and normal project needs. According to Rick Negro, the project manager of Plainville, CT-based Manafort Brothers Inc., the project’s general contractor, the project, which began May 21, 2003, included the reconstruction of 3 mi. One of North America’s largest crane operating companies, AmQuip, has committed to a significant program of investment with the Manitowoc Crane Group for its Potain tower crane product line. Under the terms of the agreement, AmQuip will purchase a number of tower cranes each year, to develop its fast-growing rental fleet. Miami Gardens Drive Job Focal Point of New City →

Just more than a year after it began, three separate but related reconstruction projects in the 2-year-old city of Miami Gardens, FL, are progressing nicely toward completion. They represent the final phase of a comprehensive plan designed to improve traffic flow and safety along Miami Gardens Drive. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) launched the projects in February 2004. The work includes Miami Gardens Drive from NW 28th Place to NW 2nd Avenue, and is expected to last approximately two years at an estimated cost of $20 million.  Click for more...


Gulf Coast Crane Rental Adds Link-Belt HTC8690 →

The fleet of cranes available for rent at Gulf Coast Crane Rental in Ft. Myers, FL, grew again in December. Don Chisum purchased a Link-Belt HTC8690 and has kept it busy since it arrived. Primarily, he said it has been used to set precast concrete planks and one contractor, Colonial Construction, in Englewood, FL, has been taking up most of its time, Chisum said. Philadelphia’s AmQuip Enters Tower Crane Business With Terex-Peiner Line →

AmQuip based in Philadelphia, PA, recently added the Terex-Peiner lineup of tower cranes to is newly started tower crane business. AmQuip will carry the full line of Terex-Peiner tower cranes, which includes the SK 315 and SK 415 as well as the SK 575 with a maximum capacity of 70,600 lbs. (32,000 kg) and a maximum free standing hook height of 249 ft. Work Charges Ahead on $23M Rochester Rhinos’ Stadium →

After four years of planning, groundbreaking for a $23-million soccer stadium took place Jan. 15, 2004, in Rochester, NY, despite frigid temperatures and below zero wind chills. Approximately 50 people attended the event, during which dirt that had been moved earlier by a backhoe was shoveled back to represent the start of the much-anticipated project. Archer Western on Target at New River →

Archer Western Contractors Ltd. is more than two-thirds finished with the reconstruction of the Interstate 77 twin bridges over the New River, the New River Trail State Park and Route 52 in Wythe County, VA. Work on the contract, awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), has been under way since April 2002. Eight Cranes Work as One in Challenging Culvert Lift →

It went off like a well-choreographed dance. Except in this case, the ballerinas were 100- to 150-ton cranes and hardhats, not tutus, were the required uniform. Eight cranes, manned by operators from four area suppliers, converged in December at the future location of Grand Champion, a 360-unit housing development in Daytona Beach, FL. Their task? Wesley Sr., AmQuip offers crane rentals and related services in northeastern United States with cranes ranging in size from “small” machines such as 6-ton (5.4 t) industrial crane up to 550-ton (499 t) all-terrain and 600-ton (544 t) crawler cranes. In May, after three and a half years of work, the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) will unveil a new work of art: a remodeled and expanded version of itself. After a delay of more than a year, a $19-million project to upgrade the Clinton-Raymond Road/Interstate 20 interchange is under way in Clinton, MS, near Jackson. Mississippi’s financial problems forced diversion of the state’s transportation funds, according to officials. The interchange is being reconstructed to improve traffic flow through the area. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is recommending a $6.8-billion transportation budget for fiscal year (FY) 2005-06.
