An underground project is steadily progressing in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the Capitol Visitors’ Center (CVC) is to preserve and maximize public access to the Capitol and greatly enhance the experience for the millions who walk its historic corridors and see its monumental spaces every year, according to the project’s Web site. “Today’s Congress understands that the people who come to their Capitol need better opportunities to learn about and more fully understand their Constitution, their Congress, and the history of their Capitol,” the Web site, in part, says. Metro Steel’s Favco Luffing Boom Crane Stars in Big Apple →
Recently, a Favco M760D-II diesel-powered luffing boom crane was purchased by Metro Steel for use on projects in the New York City area. The crane was used at the construction site of the Atlantic Center, a 25-story combined commercial and residential project in Brooklyn. A second Favco M760D-II crane rented from New York Crane also was being used on the job. Cranes of all different sizes are helping complete a $6.8- million project in the Clinton, MS-area that will mean six new bridges along the historic Natchez Trace Parkway. The project, awarded to T.L. Wallace Construction of Columbia, MS, includes three different designs for the bridges. Manitowoc Closes NE National Crane Facility, Moves It to Shady Grove, PA →
Manitowoc announced May 13 that it will close its National Crane boom-truck manufacturing facility in Waverly, NE, and will move production to the company’s facility in Shady Grove, PA. Both facilities were acquired when Manitowoc purchased Grove Worldwide last year. The closing is expected to take place by the end of 2003. Tracey Road Equipment, headquartered in Syracuse, NY, recently brought on two new equipment lines — Marini milling machines and Schwarze Industries sweepers. The Marini MP 1000 and MP 1300 track-mounted milling machines feature wide-section tracks that reduce pressure to the ground, limiting the risk of sinking when passing over water ducts or drains. “The Marini line will offer our central and upstate New York customers and municipalities with a great product that will help them with a wide range of milling projects,” said Marty West, sales manager of Tracey Road. Terex Cranes has announced a new rough-terrain crane with a maximum lift capacity of 100 tons (90 t). Designated the RT 1000, the new model has a 126-ft. (38.4 m) four-section boom with single-lever control for either three-section heavy lift or four-section long boom configuration. More than 100 customers and guests headed out to Crane & Machinery’s Open House on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. The event was held to introduce the new Terex/Demag line of cranes and three new crane sizes in the Terex lifting lines. Crane & Machinery has been representing Terex and its acquired lines for 25 years. The new products, according to Linda Hamman, area manager, “enhance what we can provide our customers in the construction equipment industry. “We have changed our offerings to focus on Terex and all of their lines,” Hamman added. The equipment dealer, based out of Bridgeview, IL, had a variety of features highlighting the open house including equipment displays, give-aways, seminars and a pig roast on Saturday. Some of the machinery on display included an American HC 275, a 275-ton (249 t) crawler crane; a Terex RT 665, a 65-ton (59 t) rough-terrain crane that weighs under the 90,000-lb. Click for more...
