Terex Corporation announced Sept. 3 that it has acquired an additional 51 percent of the outstanding common shares of the Czech Republic company Tatra a.s., an internationally recognized manufacturer of on/off-road heavy-duty vehicles for commercial and military applications with 2002 revenues of approximately $138 million. East to West, FL’s I-4 Spreads Out →

Contractors are upgrading Interstate 4 in central Florida, section-by-section, reshaping the future of the heavily-traveled highway. The 20 or so projects planned, completed or in progress along its 140-mi. (224 km) length carry a total price tag of approximately $1 billion in construction costs. Funding comes partly from an economic stimulus program pushed through the legislature by Gov. Jeb Bush. The general task given an array of contractors is to widen Interstate 4 to six lanes in some places, to eight lanes in other sections and to prepare some stretches of the corridor for an ultimate width of 10 lanes. Residents of both Mississippi and Arkansas are witnessing a new structure slowly stretching over the Mississippi River. The new Greenville Bridge, which has an estimated total cost of more than $200 million, will connect Greenville, MS, with Lake Village, AR. “This is the largest single bridge project [in Mississippi]. Metro Steel’s Favco Luffing Boom Crane Stars in Big Apple →

Recently, a Favco M760D-II diesel-powered luffing boom crane was purchased by Metro Steel for use on projects in the New York City area. The crane was used at the construction site of the Atlantic Center, a 25-story combined commercial and residential project in Brooklyn. A second Favco M760D-II crane rented from New York Crane also was being used on the job. Manitowoc Closes NE National Crane Facility, Moves It to Shady Grove, PA →

Manitowoc announced May 13 that it will close its National Crane boom-truck manufacturing facility in Waverly, NE, and will move production to the company’s facility in Shady Grove, PA. Both facilities were acquired when Manitowoc purchased Grove Worldwide last year. The closing is expected to take place by the end of 2003. Tracey Road Takes on Schwarze and Marini Milling Lines →

Tracey Road Equipment, headquartered in Syracuse, NY, recently brought on two new equipment lines — Marini milling machines and Schwarze Industries sweepers. The Marini MP 1000 and MP 1300 track-mounted milling machines feature wide-section tracks that reduce pressure to the ground, limiting the risk of sinking when passing over water ducts or drains. “The Marini line will offer our central and upstate New York customers and municipalities with a great product that will help them with a wide range of milling projects,” said Marty West, sales manager of Tracey Road.
